Dear Femslash Exchange Author
Sep. 27th, 2013 10:30 pmHello author!
I am so very excited that you're going to write something for me. I debated whether or not I should do a whole dear author letter, since there was a "notes" space in the sign-up, and also because I didn't want to put too many restrictions on you. However, I just read my requestor's dear author letter and honestly? It was super helpful and made me feel MORE able to be creative rather than less. So I write this.
That said, if you want to go in a totally different direction, do it. I know that sometimes the story that wants to be written isn't the one you start off intending to write, and that's awesome.
In general, I am open-minded and like being surprised. I like putting characters in extreme situations. I like stories about unrequited love and stories where the girl gets the girl in the end. I like angst. I like feelings, even the dark ones. I read fics that are g-rated, fics that are whoa explicit and everything in between. I like love stories. I like kinky sex. I like stories that are about kinky sex at the beginning but are love stories in the end.
Speaking of kinky: begging, bondage, S&M, power play, pain, teasing, bruises, sex in public, age differences, consensual violence, first times, trust = yes, please.
There's almost nothing that turns me off in a fic if it's written well and stays true to the characters. I read non- and dub-con, I read dark fic. Suicide and depression are hard for me to read, but I read it, probably because I like to be put through the wringer emotionally. The only things I really dislike are first- and second- person POV and AU fics (vampires, college, etc), although canon-divergence is okay. I tend to avoid bloodplay, bodily functions and pregnancy fics, as well as anything that's all "I love you" fluff with no conflict. Other than that, I am an omnivorous reader.
The rest will be a little more on specific fandoms, so feel free to skip it if you have solid ideas you want to run with. Otherwise, I hope this will be helpful to you!
And thank you. :)
Warehouse 13
Claudia/H.G., Claudia/Myka? Awesome. H.G./Claudia/Myka? Even better. Honestly, I can sum this one up as "just add Claudia." She showed up with those 20,000 volt handcuffs, hiding a battered heart under all that swagger and she had me hook, line and sinker. As for plotlines, I like the idea of exploring Claudia's sexuality and the element of the "do I want to BE her or do I want her?" question in her relationships with Myka and H.G. And I'll admit, maybe it's cliche, but virgin!Claudia gets initiated by the dynamic duo? Hell, yeah. Claudia gets caught spying and gets punished for it? Awesome. Artifact gets out of hand and two or three traumatized Warehouse agents spend the evening comforting each other? Yes, indeedy.
Star Trek: Voyager
Any combination of B'Elanna, Seven of Nine & Janeway = great. I love the angry sex possibilities of B'Elanna and Seven. I also love the idea of the two of them being competitive but then finding common ground. I love the power dynamics of Janeway with either woman, particularly the idea of the captain submitting. The only thing I don't totally dig in this fandom is that Klingon sex seems to frequently involve blood. I'm fine with rough, pain, injuries, but blood is a little too far beyond my comfort zone.
Criminal Minds
Emily/Jordan, Emily/JJ. Emotional intimacy is a natural one here, as is unrequited love. I tend to see Emily/Jordan as being more about power, and Emily/JJ as being more about emotions, but I'm always thrilled to have my expectations subverted. I like the idea of Emily THINKING she's the one doing the seducing (in either pairing) even though that might not be the case. I love the idea of JJ going to see Emily while Emily was exiled, or Emily unexpectedly showing up where JJ is, despite the danger. I wonder if, because of their line of work, they're more open to kinks (knowing that repressing them only leads to turmoil), or if they're more hesitant because they need to keep the lines between the deviants and the good guys very clear. Lots of interesting emotional stuff here.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Kira/Dax
These two. Former terrorist who never had a childhood and who saw and suffered through unspeakable conditions meets a brilliant, young scientist who has eight lifetimes inside of her. One is a volatile hothead, the other is the definition of an even keel. Put them together and the potential for sexually-charged banter gives me shivers. This is one of the only fandoms where I like established relationship fic, I think because those fics allow the characters emotional intimacy that Kira can't have without a lot of work. Also, I think they're probably spectacularly kinky.
